The Los Angeles Rams sign Quinton Coples

The Los Angeles Rams sign Quinton Coples

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports Coples agreed to a two-year deal to join L.A. The deal has a base value of $6.5 million, with a max value of $9.75 million, according to a source familiar with it.

The New York Jets cut the former No. 16 overall pick of the 2012 draft last November. Copels then spent six -- mostly silent -- games with the Miami Dolphins before being released this offseason.

The pass rusher earned zero sacks in 15 games between the Jets and Dolphins last season and compiled four quarterback hits and 12 QB hurries in 292 snaps.

I has been claimed that Coples was out of place in a 3-4 defense has an OLBer. However, he spent most of that time rushing to passer, his forte. In fact, two of his better sacks were as a 3-technique, lining up over the outside shoulder of the guard.

The best bet is that the starting D-line for the Rams next fall will be Westbrooks at LDE, Brockers at shade technique, Donald at 3 technique and Quinn at RDE.

When the Rams play nickel, which is around 50-55% it will be Hayes at LDE, Donald as an inside rusher, Sims as an inside rusher and Quinn at RDE.

Coples, at best, may spell someone in the nickel and pick up a few snaps at RDE and LDE, that is IF he makes the team, whic is NOT guaranteed.
